SINOPSIS En un mundo dominado por los hombres, Ethel Whitehead aprende que para sobrevivir solo hay un camino: ser seductora y, a la vez, poseer un fuerte caracter. Es asi como Ethel decide escalar puestos en la sociedad a traves de relaciones interesadas con el sexo opuesto. Algunos de esos hombres la aman, otros la usan; y uno - despilfarrador y chantajista- abusa de ella. Cuando este asesina a su rival en la suntuosa sala de estar de Ethel, ella se da a la fuga para regresar a la pobreza que pensaba haber dejado atras. Y esta vez puede que no encuentre un hombre que recoja los pedazos de su vida hecha anicos
